Shooting Automotive Photography

Last week I bought some new wheels for my truck from a guy I found on Craigslist. He was super nice and we ended up talking about our trucks for quite a while. He reached out to me earlier this week asking if we could make a trade. I would take photos of his truck and for payment he would give me his old wheel spacers to go with the new wheels. I was already looking at buying some so it was perfect timing. We met yesterday and tried to shoot at Daniel’s Park near Sedalia, CO, but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. So we ended up going to Rampart Range Road and shooting some photos around there. This was my first time shooting cars for some form of payment so I was really excited. We ended up spending about two hours shooting and driving around to different pull offs for photos. Once I got home I uploaded the photos and began the editing process. In total I spent about an hour and a half to two hours on editing the pictures, but they turned out very, very nice. As I continue to shoot and edit I’m slowly learning my workflow and my editing style. I almost always use the same preset and add minor adjustments to each photograph as needed. Also as I work more with shooting cars and trucks I’m learning what kinds of photographs to take. It’s always nice to have the full car in the frame, but focusing on little details as well is what makes a shoot so successful. Focus on the headlights, taillights, and suspension. Get shots of both the front and the rear of the car. Get low to the ground and shoot up and get above the car and shoot down. The more I shoot, the more I learn and the more I want to go out and do it the next day. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and here are some of my favorite photos from yesterday’s shoot.
