about the “Milky Way Over colorado” project

I’m a Colorado native that grew up in Littleton, and it wasn’t until I discovered my love and passion for photography that I really realized what an amazing and beautiful state I live in. It wasn’t long until I began to research famous landmarks and locations in Colorado for me to go and photograph. Shortly after I started my artistic journey I realized that every artist gives themselves a project, and I needed to figure out what my first project as an artist would be.

Musicians have new albums to focus on, and painters have new murals or creative pieces to create. But for photographers, our projects usually involve a certain focus on one subject, or group of subjects in the same category. I realized I could make the Milky Way my main subject, and showcase the beautiful landscapes and landmarks that Colorado has to offer alongside it. So that’s when I decided to start my first project as a photographer, the “Milky Way Over Colorado” project.

Of course my goal for this project is to capture the beautiful landscapes, historical landmarks, and night skies that Colorado has to offer, but I’m also hoping to teach people about how to protect the environment and the effects of light pollution.

The results to this project will be displayed here as I continue to capture and create these nightscape images. The “Milky Way Over Colorado” project combines my favorite forms of photography, landscape and astrophotography. My goal for this project is to capture the landscapes, historical landmarks, and beautiful night sky that Colorado has to offer, all captured in individual photos. My first stop for this project was to this mill found near Crested Butte. Please follow along on this journey with me as I capture the Milky Way Over Colorado.

These images will be available for purchase in my shop, and 5% of each purchase will be donated to Dark Sky Colorado, and an additional 5% will be donated to the Colorado Wildlife Foundation.
